May 23rd Daily Journal
Today we talk about how to describe a person by the appearance of how does he/she looks, every person has a different own characteristics like the size, color or type of hair, skin color, facial hair, color of clothes, any particular accessory, the height, the weight, the age and fashion style. This is very useful when someone ask you how does a close person looks like or if anyone need to find someone or even differentiate one person from another.

To start describing people by general appearance we can use “What does she look like?” and we can answer “She’s tall, with red hair. Or She’s gorgeous.”, by age we can use “How old is she/he?” the correct answer could be “She’s/He’s about 32. Or She’s/He’s in her/his thirties.”, another expression to describe is by the height so we ask like “How tall is she/he?” and we answer for it like “She’s/He’s 1 meter 88. Or She’s/He’s 6 feet 2.” The same structure applies for the weight. Also, we can ask for the hair in the next question “How long is her/his hair?” and to answer that question is “It’s medium length.” Or we can ask for the hair color like this “What color is her/his hair?” and this is the answer “It’s dark/light brown. Or She/he has brown hair.” Sometimes but very rare there are names for both genres and like Ariel, Jaime, Julian, Paris, Franky, etc. In this case we can ask “Is it a man or a woman?” and answer for it “It’s a man/woman.”

There is another way to describe and it’s by witch clothes or items she/he is wearing and you can ask “Which clothing items does she/he wear?” if you are in a conversation and want to know directly you can ask “Which clothing items do you often wear?, What are three more thing you like to wear? Or What’s your style? Is it classic? Cool? Casual? Funky? Something else?” and them the answer is what you usually wear.

When you are surrounded by people like in a party or in the college lessons you can ask using participles “Who’s Edwin?” and answer “He’s the man wearing a green shirt” or use the answer “Which one is Edwin?” and in respond “He’s the one talking to Liz.” Also we can use prepositions for the answers like “Edwin is the man with the short black hair. Or Edwin is the tall one in jeans.” For many people we can use “They’re the people next to the window. Or They’re the ones on the couch.”

We made activities in the book like answer how does he looks like by describing also listening descriptions and matching the right one, we look a describe style picture, we listen a conversation of people in one party trying to know each one who did not know and finally answer questions by using participles and prepositions.
